Our judging panel reviews a common theme from this year's submissions: a stark shift away from passive data visualization toward automated decision engines.
For the past five years, data consulting submissions were dominated by one deliverable: the dashboard. Beautiful, complex, and highly interactive Tableau or PowerBI dashboards were seen as the pinnacle of data maturity. However, the 2026 Data Forward Awards signaled a dramatic shift in what enterprises actually value.
Data Fatigue
The panel noted that executives are suffering from "dashboard fatigue." Having real-time visibility into a supply chain delay or a marketing conversion drop is useless if the organization lacks the agility to act on it. Passive observation is no longer enough.
The winning consultancies this year completely bypassed the dashboard. Instead of showing a client a chart that inventory is low, they deployed Actionable Metrics—algorithms that automatically trigger a re-order script via an API to the ERP system when inventory crosses a dynamic threshold.
"We don't need another graph showing us the house is on fire. We need the data system to automatically turn on the sprinklers." — Judge's Commentary, 2026
As we look forward to the 2027 awards cycle, consultancies must prove how their data architectures close the gap between insight and action, prioritizing automated resolution over visual reporting.
